Plastics Used for Desktop 3D Printing
The two most common used thermoplastic for desktop 3D printing are PLA and ABS. We offer the best quality PLA and ABS filaments in diameters of 1.75mm and 3mm.

PLA (or Poly-Lactic Acid in full) is a thermoplastic which is extruded from the starch of plants, such as corn, cassava, sugarcane, cereals, or sugar beet. By being derived from biological resources this type of thermoplastic can be biodegradable under the right conditions (such as an active compost heap, with enough presence of oxygen) and therefore has a much lesser environmental impact than thermoplastics derived from fossil fuels.

ABS (or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene in full) is a thermoplastic which, as its name implies, is produced by the polymerization of acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. ABS is produced from fossil fuels, meaning that it is not biodegradable and has a greater environmental impact than PLA for instance. Because of its toughness and strength ABS is a very popular and common used thermoplastic in industry.


Our Quality
We at Formfutura and our manufacturer of our PLA and ABS filaments share the same vision about the quality of 3D printing filaments. We must always strive for the best quality as possible. That is why our manufacturer has its own production facility, which is solely developed and set up for the extrusion of PLA and ABS plastic filament used for desktop 3D printing purposes only. This has enabled them to stabilise all important parameters for 3D printing, resulting in an extremely high and reliable quality standard with respect to our filament’s colours, printing quality and tolerances in diameter and roundness.

Although our filaments are already of outstanding quality, together with our manufacturer we will never stop to improve our products. Our manufacturer spends a lot of time, effort and engagement to improve the quality of our filaments and to make sure they continuously supply stable, certified quality. Next to our continuous journey to keep improving our quality and further reducing tolerances in size and shape, we are also continuously looking to extend our product offering by adding new colours, or effects like glow-in-the-dark or shimmering/glistening reflections.

We value our customer’s opinion greatly, because your feedback enables us to keep improving our products. Therefore we are always keen to receive your feedback on the quality of our filaments, our offered order quantities, and also on our product offering regarding the colours and special effects of our PLA and ABS filaments. Please let us know if you like us to add other order quantities, a certain colour, or special effect to our shop. We will share this information with our manufacturer and together we will work on these enquiries/feedbacks in order to continuously improve our filaments and service. Our Filaments
Formfutura offers the highest quality of PLA and ABS thermoplastic filament, used for desktop 3D printing, in diameters suitable for the fast majority of desktop 3D printers available on the market. Almost all desktop 3D printers are designed to use either 1.75mm, or 3mm diameter plastic filament. A desktop 3D printer mostly only works with one of these diameters, as the extruder on a desktop 3D printer is designed to only use a certain diameter of plastic filament. Some desktop 3D printers however will allow you to replace the extruder suitable for either 1.75mm, or 3mm diameter of filament.

We Sell Our Filament per Spool and by the Meter
At Formfutura it is possible to buy our standardized spool-wrapped filaments, as well as buying our filaments per meter.

Spool-wrapped filament
Our standard filaments are wrapped on a plastic spool and carry a minimum net weight of 0,9kg / 2lb. Our spool-wrapped filaments are packed in a silica sealed bag and come in a carton box with a small window to check the filament diameter and colour.

Filament by the meter
At Formfutura it is also possible to cut-length filament by the meter! We want to keep desktop 3D printing affordable and therefore give our customers the opportunity to buy our filaments by the meter. We can imagine that you would like to use as much colours as possible for your creations and buying several spool-wrapped filaments of different colour can be very costly and you probably won’t even need all the material you bought. That is why we sell by the meter. We don’t want to hold you back in being creative and experiment whit as many colours as possible.

Our cut-lengths our packed in a silica sealed bag and come in a small carton box.
